INDICATIONS:
Adrenal Rx is a balancing adaptogen formula indicated for those who are
overworked, overstressed, and find themselves feeling tired, overwhelmed and burnt out most or all of the time. It is also helpful for those who haven’t hit the wall yet,
but live fast-paced, high-stress lifestyles and want to avoid breakdown and burnout.
Adrenal Rx will increase the body’s resistance to physical, mental, and environmental
stress, and help to defend against diseases and disorders caused by overstress.
The herbs used in the formula are highly adaptogen and work synergistically
to moderate the stress response, not by blocking it altogether but by balancing it
out. In other words, they enable the body to respond more appropriately to stress
without over-exaggerating the response. This prevents adrenal overstimulation and
protects the adrenals from breakdown and exhaustion. Adaptogens act positively
on glucose metabolism as they stimulate the liver to convert glycogen to glucose,
enhance entry of glucose into the cell, and enhance utilization of glucose within cells.
Regular use of Adrenal Rx will help normalize stress hormone levels, lessening ones
predisposition to stress, decrease over-reactions during the stress response, and
provide protection against the effects of long-term stress. In addition, energy and
vitality will be restored, and mood and emotional well-being will improve.
Eleuthero (Eleutherococcus senticosus) has been used in Traditional Chinese
Medicine for thousands of years and is indicated for those with fatigue, physical
weakness, compromised immunity, and poor work capacity and concentration.
Pharmacologically, Eleuthero tonifies, displays anti-stress activity, increases
lymphocyte count, and has an immunomodulatory effect on the cellular immune
system. Studies show that Eleuthero increases endurance, reduces the alarm phase
of the stress response, prevents stress-induced illness and disease, supports adrenal
function, and enhances T-cell activation and immune system function. Formerly
known in the U.S. as Siberian Ginseng, Eleuthero is not a true ginseng, but it does
belong to the same family of plants. Compared to true ginseng, Eleuthero is non heating and milder in its stimulatory effects.
Ashwagandha is used preventively to avoid burnout and breakdown and restoratively
to help strengthen those who are already mentally and/or physically depleted. It has
positive effects on chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, debility, and recovery from
wasting diseases. Ashwagandha is one of the most important herbs of Ayurveda and
is known as “Ayurvedic” Ginseng. It is indicated for similar conditions as Ginseng,
but it is not heating, Yang, or stimulating like Ginseng. Many scientific studies have
been conducted that support Ashwagandha’s adaptogen and anti-stress activity.
It’s been found to be effective at increasing physical endurance, preventing gastric
ulcers brought on by stress, and reducing the rise of stress hormone levels in the
blood. Ashwagandha also has cognitive effects and can increase intellect and
memory. Several studies indicate it slows stops and reverses neuritic atrophy
and synaptic loss, and thus has been used in the treatment of neurodegenerative
diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s. Ashwagandha also
displays GABA-mimetic, anxiolytic and anti-depressant properties and can help

stabilize mood in those with anxiety and depression.
American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) is native to North America and was used
in traditional indigenous medicine by tribes such as the Cherokee, Creek, Iroquois,
Menominee, Ojibwa, Pawnn, and Seneca. Its primary uses include enhancing
blood sugar metabolism in both healthy individuals and those with type 2 diabetes,
improving cardiorespiratory endurance during activity, boosting mood and reducing
fatigue. It has a systemic effect to increase vigor, energy and vitality, and is especially
helpful for individuals feeling overworked and rundown. Red Chinese Ginseng
(Panax ginseng) is more warming and stimulating than American. Studies have
shown it to have positive effects on quality or life, physical and mental stress, and
intellectual skills. Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that it replenishes vital
essence and promotes blood circulation. It acts through both the hypothalamuspituitary-adrenal axis and through its immunomodulatory activity.
Schizandra increases endurance and mental performance, and has an adaptogen,
tonifying, and stimulating effect during extreme fatigue. Studies indicate daily
use of Schizandra helps prevent increases in cortisol, nitric oxide and stress
activated protein kinase. It also exhibits anti-depressant activity and is indicated for
depressions related to excessive fatigue and nervous exhaustion.
Cordyceps have been traditionally used as a tonic to improve energy, endurance,
stamina, appetite and sleep patterns. Research indicates they have biological and
pharmacological actions in diseases of the liver, kidneys and cardiovascular system,
and effects on immunological disorders. Cordyceps stimulate production of T helper
cells, TNF-alpha and interleukin 1 production, increase natural killer cell activity,
and prolong lymphocyte survival.
Rhodiola increases resistance to chemical, biological, and physical stressors and
protects the body from stress-induced breakdown. It stimulates the activity of the
neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine, helps normalize mood
in depressed individuals, and improves cognitive function.
